Aam Aadmi Bima Yojana Scheme (AABYS)

Description of the Scheme

The scheme provides death and disability insurance cover to marginal sections in case the head of the family or one earning member of the household becomes disabled due to an accident or dies due to a natural/accidental cause. As per the revised guidelines of LIC of India received in the year 2013-14, 44 new vocational/occupational groups have been included under AABY in order to ensure proper implementation of the scheme in all the districts of Kashmir Division. Prior to this, the scheme was confined to Rural Landless Households only in the age group of 18 to 59 years by dint of which the coverage/ response was not upto the mark and the desired targets were not achieved. Now with the modified guidelines, it is expected that more and more eligible beneficiaries will be covered and brought under the purview of the scheme. Moreover, the urban poor persons living below poverty line are also included in the scheme.

Accordingly, a fresh survey was conducted in all the Districts of Kashmir Division including the Districts of Leh and Kargil. The district-wise number of eligible beneficiaries to be covered were taken up with the Administrative Department.
